Obituary

Sarah P. “Sally” (Carmichael) Zegarowski,66, of Salem, passed away peacefully at North Shore Medical Center on Friday, December 6, 2019, surrounded by family. She was the devoted wife of Richard P. Zegarowski with whom she had shared 31 years of marriage.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Virginia (Ring) Carmichael. Sally was a graduate of Swampscott High School Class of ’71 an received her BS and her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Salem State University. She worked at Spaulding Rehab in Salem and Cambridge, North Shore Medical Center as well as JB Thomas in Peabody. Sally also taught Nursing Classes at Salem State for a number of years. In May of this year, she was awarded a Nurse Leader Award that recognized her commitment to the medical field by the Eta Tau Chapter of Sigma that celebrates Global Nursing Excellence.
Sally loved her immediate and extended family, co-workers, patients and students. She and Richard established a second home in Naples, FL which they have enjoyed for many years. Her neighborhood Christmas Brunches, co-hosted with the Fouhey Family were always awesome and memorable, As recently as this Thanksgiving, she hosted, with the great help of her three sisters, dinner for 22 family members. Her accomplishments were many, but Sally will be remembered for her great smile, outgoing personality and caring nature. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, she leaves behind her loving son John and three sisters, Sherry Carmichael, Sharon Reil and her husband John and Holly Fader and her husband Mark. She also leaves her two step-children, Julie Burgess and Paul Stiffler and her in-laws, Anne and David Devoe, Karen Zegarowski and her partner Melissa Mann and Alan Zegarowski, in addition to many nieces & nephews and her lifelong friend, Diane Valle with whom she traveled extensively throughout the years.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Mass of Christian Burial in the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd. Salem on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. Calling hours at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A ] Salem are today, Monday, Dec. 9th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be private.
