Helen Scarborough Montgomery, 81, of Tifton passed away Saturday, December 7, 2019, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2019, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Bobby Pittman and the Rev. Larry Cone officiating. Mrs. Montgomery will be laid to rest at Staunton Cemetery in Lenox. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 10, 2019, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Camden Watson, J. C. Watson, Trent Pope, Derrick Johnson, Andrew Smith and Ivey Peters will serve as pallbearers.
Born November 18, 1938 in Tift County, Mrs. Montgomery was the daughter of the late Clarence J. Scarborough and Addie Peters Scarborough. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Edward Montgomery; two brothers; and two sisters. Before retiring, she was employed by Suwanee Swifty. She was a volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters for 19 years and a member of the Tifton Elks Lodge. She was also a member of the WBIC Bowling Association for 50 years and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Tifton.
Mrs. Montgomery is survived by two daughters, Patricia Schwalls of Tifton and Sara Watson Brown of Douglas; five grandchildren, Misty Johnson, Eddie Watson, Randy Marshall Cone, Jimmy Watson and Jennifer Schwalls; two step-grandchildren, Laura Hickman and Eric Schwalls; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson, Landon Michael Johnson.
