Elizabeth Goff Payne, 99, of Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina, formerly of Valdosta, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2019, in South Carolina. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 9, 2019, at Mount Calvary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Mays and the Rev. Dwight Bishop officiating. Mrs. Payne will be laid to rest at Mount Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Born September 28, 1920 in Enigma, Mrs. Payne was the daughter of the late Daniel Goff and Nellie McMillan Goff. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clark D. Payne; four brothers; and one sister. She retired from Civil Service at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta as a switchboard operator and she was an active member in the United Methodist Church. Second only to her love for God and family was her love for music. She wrote numerous gospel songs, several of which were published in gospel song books. She enjoyed playing the piano her entire life, continuing to play for everyone in her assisted living facility.
Mrs. Payne is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Trudy Walsh of Vail, Colorado and Jerry and Susan Payne of Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Norman Hunt of Mountain Rest, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Brent Walsh, Norm Hunt, Benjamin Hunt, Brian Payne and Julie Payne Morris; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
