Helen Theresa Flaherty, 94

Helen Theresa “Penny” (McLaughlin) Flaherty, age 94, a resident of The Village at Willow Crossings in Mansfield, formerly of Pocasset and Stoughton passed away on Monday, December 2, 2019. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas E. Flaherty, Sr.

Born in Boston, MA on May 31, 1925, she was a loving daughter of the late Alexander and Mary A. (Murphy) McLaughlin.

Penny grew up in the Brighton neighborhood of Boston and was a 1944 graduate of Brighton High School. When younger, she had worked in the accounting division at John Hancock Insurance and after marrying Tom, she was a devoted homemaker to her treasured family who were truly the focal point of her life.

Mrs. Flaherty had made her home in Mansfield for the past seven years and while residing in Pocasset, was a member of the Newcomers Club. She enjoyed reading and along with her late husband, spent many beautiful winters in Florida. Also, when younger, Penny was a classically trained singer.

She is survived by her devoted children: Terri McGrath and her husband Jack of Raynham, Ann Bottini of Brockton, Kathy Vose and her husband George of Plymouth, Judy Durkin and her husband Ed of Franklin, Thomas Flaherty, Jr. and his wife Stacey of Stoughton and the late Elaine Doherty. She was the dear sister of the late Kay Rosemere, Mary Sweeney, Gene McLaughlin and Peg Grace-McDonough. She is also survived by her cherished 19 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 10th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will take privately at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Visitation will be held prior to the services on Tuesday morning from 9:00-10:30 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
