Obituary

Dartmouth – Stella M. (Amaral) Sylvia, age 95, of Autumn Glen, Dartmouth, formerly of Russell Mills Road, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at Autumn Glen, Dartmouth. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward A. Sylvia III. Born on July 30, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Joseph E. Amaral and Mary (Enos) Amaral.

Stella had been employed at Cornell-Dubilier and later at the Acushnet Process. Stella had many hobbies which included ceramics, macramé and making lovely Christmas ornaments that were sold at a yearly Christmas Bazaar which was hosted by her sewing circle group. She was a huge sports fan especially of the Red Sox and Patriots. She had been part of a softball league in her youth. She loved swimming at her summer cottage on Long Pond and could easily swim across the width of the pond and back. She and her husband were known for hosting family barbeques throughout the summer.

Her family included her daughter, Susan Fournier and spouse Daniel of South Dartmouth; sons, Paul Sylvia and spouse Dr. Mary Louise Francis of Acushnet and North Dartmouth, and David Sylvia and spouse Dr. Clifford Wood of Fall River; grandchildren, Jason Fournier and his spouse Joyce (Joey), Adam Sylvia and his fiancée Theresa Lindboe, and Erin Sylvia; great-grandson, Danny Fournier; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the last survivor among her siblings who included, Hilda Correia, Laura Christenson, Maggie Fletcher, Dorothy Moniz, Manny Amaral, Red Amaral, Dennis Amaral and Tony Amaral.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Autumn Glen, as well as Stella’s excellent team of personal caregivers who so lovingly attended to her and provided great comfort to her. They were considered part of her family.

Stella’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning, December 4, 2019 with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. The family has kindly requested that everyone who plans on attending to please meet directly at the church.

A Memorial Mass and gathering to celebrate Stella’s life will be held on Saturday, December 14th at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Everyone attending is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial of her ashes will immediately follow in Riverside Cemetery of Fairhaven.
