Obituary

Catherine Luckett Albright, 82, of Jacksonville, Florida, died Thursday, November 28, 2019, at HarborChase of Jacksonville.

Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Jeremy Cox officiating. A Celebration of Life service will be held in May, 2020 in Southern Pines, North Carolina.

Mrs. Albright was born May 13, 1937, in Kansas City, Missouri, to the late Merritt G. & Ethel Fohl Luckett. She was a graduate of Moberly High School in Moberly, Missouri and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Georgia in 1959. She taught Kindergarten in Atlanta and Second Grade at Ft. Benning Post School, where she met the man she would marry. She later taught Kindergarten on Long Island, New York. Her husband’s military career took her literally around the world having lived in Germany, Ft. Rucker, Alabama, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, Australia, and Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. She settled in Southern Pines, North Carolina following her husband’s retirement and made her home there for over 40 years. She fondly recalled the many summers she spent in Fitzgerald while growing up and always considered Fitzgerald her true home, knowing one day she would return. Her Aunt Lola Fohl Ragsdale was a gracious host and the two developed a lifelong bond. She enjoyed vacationing on St. Simons Island and took many road trips while developing her life’s passion of antiques colleting and dealing. Christianity was a big part of her life and she was active in Baptist churches wherever she lived.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John Edward Albright of Jacksonville, Florida; a daughter, Jennifer Lee Albright & Jeffery Clark of Strafford, Vermont; a son, John Merritt Albright & Maureen Manning Albright of Wilmette, Illinois; and two grandchildren: Shannon Maureen Albright and Kathleen Merritt Albright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother.
