Obituary

CHICOPEE - Lillian H. (Roberts) Phaneuf, 92, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at Mount Saint Vincent Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born in Holyoke on April 6, 1927, the beloved daughter of the late Calixte and Elsie (Walz) Roberts. She was raised and educated in Holyoke and moved to Fairview in the 1950’s where she lived the remainder of her life. She was employed in the Bakery Department at the former Food Mart Grocery Store in Chicopee and the former Langelier’s Bakery in Holyoke. She was a devoted member of Faith United Methodist Church in Chicopee. She truly loved her church and, along with Janice, helped run the bargain shop. She volunteered on the church “brownie brigade” and would often cook and make desserts for many church functions. In her younger years, she enjoyed candlepin bowling, was a den mother for the local Boy Scouts and a noon mother at the Streiber Memorial School in Chicopee. She loved arts and crafts, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed camping and her many trips to Cape Cod to visit her relatives. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Henry Phaneuf who was Called Home on February 18, 1986; and her loving son, David Phaneuf. She leaves her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Terri A. Major and her husband, Daniel, of Chicopee; her three cherished granddaughters, Stephanie Eddy and her husband, Arthur, Sarah Major and Amanda Major; her cherished great-grandson, Brandon Eddy; and her many dear friends. Her family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 191 Montcalm Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (please meet directly at the Church). Her burial will be private at Forestdale Cemetery in Holyoke. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Faith United Methodist Church, 191 Montcalm Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
