New Bedford – Maria E. Fonseca, age 97, of New Bedford, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2019 at home with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Maria Ingles.
Maria was born in Escarigo, Portugal to the late Cassiano Da Fonseca and Julia Almeida Tavares. She had been a loving homemaker and loved spending time with her family. Maria also helped to raise her great-grandchildren, as well as many other friends’ children. She loved dancing and was a very active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Maria was always so full of life and spunk and she will be missed dearly.
She is survived by her 3 children, Julia de Oliveira and her husband Joao de Oliveira, 3 granddaughters and 4 great-grandchildren from New Bedford; Maria Natalia Ingles Arruda and her companion Waldir Baptista, 4 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; Joaquim da Fonseca Ingles and his wife Lidia Gomes, 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren from Brazil; 1 brother, Alberto T. da Fonseca from Portugal; as well as several nephews and nieces from Portugal and Brazil.
Maria’s visiting hours will be held Friday evening, November 29th from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will be Saturday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
