Obituary

WORCESTER: Lazar K. “Larry” Koblara, 90, formerly of Lake Ave. in Worcester, died peacefully Tuesday evening, November 19, 2019, at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Worcester. His wife of 59 years, Marietta A. (Ligor) Koblara, died December 16, 2009.

He leaves a son, Gary N. Koblara and his wife Susan of Sturbridge; a daughter, Stephanie P. Smaltz and her husband Paul of Paxton; 4 grandchildren, Tara A. Belinskas of Sturbridge, Lauren K. Kostantin and her husband Chris of West Brookfield, Daniel J. and Jennifer C. Smaltz of Paxton; 3 great grandsons, Shane and Dylan Belinskas, Jackson Kostantin; and many nieces and nephews.

He was born in Permet, Albania on March 18, 1929, son of the late Koli A. and Lefteria Koblara. He came to the United States as a child, was raised in South Boston, and was a United States Marine Corps Veteran. He lived in Worcester most of his life until moving to Scarborough, Maine in 2001. After returning to Worcester in 2011 he became a resident of Colony Retirement Homes in Holden where he lived for several years.

Larry was a linotype operator at the Worcester Telegram & Gazette for many years. He later worked at Courier Citizen Press in Lowell and at Heald Machine before he retired. He was a former member and choir director of St. Mary’s Albanian Orthodox Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his great grandsons. He will be fondly remembered by many for his talent of joyfully playing his harmonica.

The family would like to express their most sincere appreciation to the management and staff at Holy Trinity for the personal and attentive care they provided to Larry.

After cremation, burial will be at Hope Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Larry’s life will be held at a later date. The family suggests donations in memory of Larry be made to Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 300 Barber Avenue, Worcester, MA 01606.
