Obituary

Fernando Sobral, 79, of Acushnet died January 26, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Lucille B. (Marchessault) Sobral with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Ivo and Ermelinda (Santos) Sobral, he lived in New Bedford before moving to Acushnet 29 years ago.
Mr. Sobral was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Rochester.
He was formerly employed as a salesman for Butter Bread Bakery for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Sobral served in the US Navy during World War II and participated in the Normandy Invasion aboard the destroyer USS Corey which was sunk on that day. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, American Campaign Medal, European -African-Middle Eastern Campaign and the World War II Victory Medal.
He enjoyed dancing and travel.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jane Parsons, and her husband David, of Marion and Cynthia Aguiar of New Bedford; a brother, Joseph Sobral of New Bedford; a sister, Albertina Martins, of Shrewsbury; a granddaughter, Jennifer Aguiar; several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Antone Sobral and Joaquim Sobral.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett, Monday, January 30th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima Church, Rochester at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Sunday, January 29th from 3-7 PM.
Interment private.
