Robert A. Sweeney, 81, died at the Carolina Medical Center in Pineville, NC on Wednesday, January 25. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Plunkett) Sweeney. Born and educated in Canton, Mr. Sweeney was a resident of Stoughton for 55 years before moving to Fort Mill, SC 2 months ago. He was an U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Mr. Sweeney was a chef at the Massachusetts Hospital School in Canton for 32 years before retiring 15 years ago. In his free time he enjoyed golfing.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Sweeney is survived by his children, Diane Mainones of Mansfield, Maureen Joyal of Baldwinville, Cindy Anderson of Hanson, Jeanne Curran of SC and Kevin Sweeney of Taunton, as well as his siblings, Ann Hynes of Reading, Francis Sweeney of Falmouth, Paul Sweeney of N. Reading, Raymond Sweeney of Easton, Charles Sweeney of FL and Eugene Sweeney of Newton. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert A. Sweeney, Jr. and his daughter, Marianne Hampe.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, January 30 at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:15 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday 3-6 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton. Donations in Robert’s name may be made to the Trustees Fund, Mass.
