Obituary

CHICOPEE ~ Ernest E. Roy, 71, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, November 6, 2019. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on May 21, 1948, a beloved son of the late Wilfred and Aurore (Giroux) Roy. He was raised in Fairview, graduated from Rosary High in Holyoke and had lived in Fairview his entire life. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Norris and attained the rank of Boatswain’s Mate Third Class. He received the National Defense Service Medal. He had owned and operated E & N Corporation in Chicopee as a general contractor and retired in 2018. During his leisure time, loved the ocean, enjoyed scuba diving and boating. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Nancy L. (Warnock) Roy. They were married on May 21, 1983 at the First Presbyterian Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 36 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving children, Deborah DeMarco and her husband, Russ, of South Hadley, and Robert Barton and Melanie Buckley and her husband, James, all of Chicopee; his six cherished grandchildren, Alyssa Santucci and her husband, Derek, Anthony DeMarco and his wife, Beth, Vanessa DeMarco, and Matelynn, Sarah and Lilyanne Buckley; his three cherished great-grandchildren, Eleanor Santucci and Oliver and Henry DeMarco; his two dear brothers, Norman Roy and his wife, Barbara, of Holyoke and Donald Roy and his wife, Irene, of Chicopee; his two dear sisters-in-law, Gloria Roy of Warren, RI and Linda Roy of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Roy and Warnock families. In addition to his beloved parents, he was also predeceased by his two dear brothers, Roger E.J. Roy and Rene A. Roy; his two dear sisters, Rita A. Sarad and Yvonne L. Benoit; and his dear nephew, Steven P. Roy. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 which will be followed by United States Navy Military Honors. His burial will be private. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Springfield Unit, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
