Obituary

John David Payton, 67, of Middleburg, Florida, died Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, November 3, 2019 at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, Georgia with the Rev. Dewain Joiner officiating. Interment will follow in the Irwinville Cemetery, in Irwin County, Georgia. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Payton was born February 7, 1952, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late George L. & Clara Mae Tyson Payton. He was also raised by his late grandparents L.M. & Thelma Rutherford Tyson. He worked in construction and was a painter. Mr. Payton served in the United States Marine Corps.

He is survived by his wife Anita Casas Payton of Middleburg, Florida; children: Peter Paul Payton of Douglas and Melissa Diane McLendon of Atlanta; step-children: Stephanie Polder of Jacksonville, Florida and Andres Miguel Hattendorf of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren: Lindsey Payton, Cian Isaiah Griffith, Andrew Saxon Casas, Heidi Lynn Polder, Sebastian Lee Garrett Polder and Lillian Rose Polder; three great-grandchildren: Hazel Rose Barnes, Cameron Derek Barnes and Violet Zion Casas and a brother, Thomas Martin Payton & Mary of Fitzgerald. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: William Lloyd Payton and Charles Ladon Payton, Sr. “Donnie” and a sister Mary Lena Payton.
