Olaf Rene 'Yogi' Garcia, 86, passed away October 28, 2019 after a long illness.
He was born in Harlingen, TX., June 18, 1933 son of the late Oscar Donato and Marie Encarnacion (Garza) Garcia. He moved to Vermont at age 12.
Olaf graduated from Colgate University. He was self- employed in medical sales and worked with his children.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy, and was the loving father to his children, sons; Micheal R. Garcia and his wife Christine of Charlton, and Tony Garcia and his companion Brenda of Charlton,
A daughter, Sandra Garcia of Worcester and another son, Olaf Garcia and his wife Kelly of Austin, TX., son-in-law, John Leger of Charlton, 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He also leaves three sisters; Olga Laird of Burlington, Vt., Oralia Williams of Willmington, VT., and Ofelia Navarrete of Ogunquit, ME. and predeceased by a brother Oscar Garcia.
Olaf was passionate about sports. He was an outstanding high school athlete in Rutland, VT., he was recognized state wide for his achievements. He coached baseball and was active in Jay Cees in Ohio and Pop Warner teams in Charlton, leading to championships.
He was a member of the Charlton Lions Club and served on the Bay Path Regional Vocational High School Committee for 37 years and was an active member of the Charlton Federated Church for 50 years.
He especially enjoyed his time with family and watching New England Professional Sports.
Memorial Calling Hours for Olaf will be Thursday, October 31, 2019 from 5-7pm at the ROBERT J. MILLER-CHARLTON FUNERAL HOME, 175 Old Worcester Rd. in Charlton.
A Memorial Funeral Service will be held Friday, November 1, 2019 at 10 am in the Charlton Federated Church, Main St., Charlton.
