Obituary

Mrs. Marie E. (Lacy) Matthews, a resident of Medford and former resident of Hampstead, New Hampshire, beloved wife of Hugh D. Matthews, passed away at the Glen Ridge Nursing Center in Medford on Tuesday afternoon, October 22, 2019. She was 75 years old.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on October 18, 1944, she was the beloved daughter of the late Robert N. and Margaret H. (Mooney) Lacy. Mrs. Matthews was employed as a medical administrator prior to her retirement. Marie enjoyed a lifetime of music. She was actively involved in church choir and singing groups and was proud of being voted class singer in high school. Marie had a special love for the Celtic music and culture of Cape Breton and Prince Edward Islands. She regularly traveled to Nova Scotia with her husband Hugh visiting relatives and attending ceilidhs. She loved meeting and connecting with people and had a special love for animals. Above all, she was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed.

In addition to her husband Hugh, she is survived by her loving daughter; Renée and her husband Andrew Meuse of Medford; sister, Maureen and her husband Charles Houghton of Stoneham; aunt, Edna Mullen of Wenham; stepchildren, Sandy Matthews and her wife Monie Buchanan of Orlando, Florida, Sharon and her husband Robert Boudreau of Salem, New Hampshire, Sheryll and her husband Michael Russell of Kingston, New Hampshire, Hugh, Jr., and his wife Debi Matthews of Billerica and David Matthews of Winter Springs, Florida; grandchildren, Jackie and Charlotte Meuse; and step-grandchildren Sean Blanchard, Vanessa Bellitti, Nicholas and Joshua Matthews, Lindsey Matthews, and Rachel Russel Pagan. She is also survived by step-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews whom she adored. She was the sister of the late Brian and Bruce Lacy of Malden.

Her funeral service will be celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
