Billy Burchard of Weston, died January 21, 2006 after a 5 ½ year battle against Pancreatic Cancer. He was 48. Billy was born September 13, 1957 in Brockton to Mary Louise (Cashin) Burchard and the late Joseph William Burchard. He attended Brockton High School where he was a proud member of the first two undefeated Division 1 Super Bowl football teams and the Senior Class President for the class of 1975. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree in Government and Economics from Bowdoin College in 1979. He was married on his 29th birthday to Susan (Cronin) Burchard and was the loving Dad of Joseph Cronin Burchard, 14 and Molly Katherine Burchard, 11. In 1993 he became the founder and owner of Fast Forwarding Inc., a nationwide freight forwarding, transportation and logistics company based out of Norwood. He built the company from the ground up along side his loving brother Bobby. Through out the years he was a member of numerous industry related affiliations. He was an all around athlete and complete sports enthusiast. He was an avid golfer and alpine skier and a member of the Weston Golf Club. He was a volunteer for many local organizations including the St. Julia Parish Council, the Weston Youth Athletic Fields Commission, and long time youth sports coach in Brockton, Wayland, and most recently Weston. He was the Head Football Coach for the Weston Middle School, a member of the Weston Little League Board of Directors and Little League Commissioner. He loved coaching and mentoring children, which became his true passion after he became ill. Of all the different titles he held, the two that he was most proud of were “Dad” and “Coach.”
In addition to his wife Susan, his son Joseph and daughter Molly, he is survived by his mother Mary (Cashin) Burchard of Weston and his brother Robert Burchard of Canton. He will be truly missed by his uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is an inspiration to the many loved ones he leaves behind.
The funeral will be held from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) Wellesley, on Friday January 27th , at 9:30 AM. A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Julia’s Church, Weston, at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Interment will be in Linwood Cemetery, Weston. In lieu of flowers, donations be made in Billy’s memory to the Massachusetts General Hospital Development Office, 165 Cambridge St., Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114.
