Mary E. Peres, a sassy Provincetown local, passed away on Saturday, October 12th after a brief illness. She was 74.
Born and raised in Provincetown, she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Bertha (Snow) Santos. Mary worked a variety of jobs in Provincetown while raising four sons. She was known and loved by locals and visitors alike for her sense of humor and kindness.
After retiring, Mary loved volunteering for the Provincetown Council on Aging where she held the title of President and member of the Friends of the COA. Her favorite responsibilities included setting up and serving patrons at the weekly luncheon and baking an onslaught of desserts for their yearly bake-sale. She will be dearly missed by all of her friends at the COA.
In her free time, Mary loved to play cards, especially cribbage. You could often find her with her son, Stephen, playing downtown with friends and visitors alike.
Mary leaves behind four sons, Christopher Martinez of Falmouth, James Martinez of Ware, Stephen Martinez of Provincetown, and Victor Martinez of Sanbornville, NH. A brother, Vernon Santos of Hyannis as well as 5 grandchildren: SSgt Christopher Martinez of USAF, South Korea, Angela Martinez of Framingham, Arianna Martinez of Provincetown, Austin Martinez of Sanbornville, NH, and Rhylie Martinez of Sanbornville, NH. Many nieces, nephews, and friends also survive her. She was predeceased by brothers Manny and Francis Santos.
Beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, she will be dearly missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 30th at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 30 Prince St, Provincetown. A private burial will follow.
