Obituary

Maryann (Mroczkowski) Williams, 96, of New Bedford passed away Tuesday October 15, 2019 after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Reginald V. Williams.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Bazel and Rose (Laskowski) Mroczkowski, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.

Mrs. Williams received her Bachelor of Science degree from UMass Amherst and her Master’s degree from Assumption College. After her graduation from college, she was employed as a food inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture along the East Coast. She later worked for many years as a math and science teacher at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational-Technical High School until her retirement.

A lifelong Democrat, Maryann was active in union activities at Voc-Tech and was a member of the Teamsters Union. She was also a member of St. Julie’s Ladies Guild, St. Joseph’s Senior Citizens, and the College Club of New Bedford. She was an avid reader and shopper, always enjoying a good bargain. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor and an adventurous spirit and was a great listener.

Mrs. Williams was well-versed in health and wellness issues and always embraced a healthy lifestyle. She was a pioneer in renewable energy in the New Bedford area and was one of the first local property owners to install solar panels.

She is survived by her children, Craig Williams of San Leandro, CA, Karin Williams Buckley of Dartmouth, and Corinn Williams of New Bedford; her sister, Helen Zartarian of Jamestown, RI; four grandchildren, Bazel Baez, Alexander Buckley and his wife Kristen, Vanessa Buckley and her fiancé Charles Gambale, and Jake Williams; a great-granddaughter, Dylan Elizabeth Buckley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Frances Meckowski.

Her Funeral will be held on Monday October 21st at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth at 10 AM.
