LOWELL—Mary R. (Reed) Boehm, 86 years old, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died Friday evening, January 20th, at Saints Memorial Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of Edward ‘Buck’ Boehm, with whom she would have celebrated 60 years of marriage next week.
She was born in Lowell, on December 23, 1919, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Jones) Reed, and was a graduate of the Morey Junior High School, and Lowell High School. She attended Lowell Technological Institute.
Mrs. Boehm worked as a Store manager at the H.L. Green 5 & 10 Store in downtown Lowell, until her enlistment in the U.S. Marines. Upon discharge, she worked as a Traffic Supervisor for the Lowell School Department at the Belvidere School.
She was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church and served as a Prefect for the Blessed Virgin Sodality of that parish. She also held membership in the Boy Scouts Parents Council and the D.A.V., of Lowell. Mrs. Boehm enjoyed traveling cross country with her husband, while he played pro baseball. They wintered in Clearwater, FL for over 20 years and spent the summers on Lake Ossipee.
Surviving her are a son and daughter-in-law: Robert W. ‘Bob’ and Dawn (Pearsall) Boehm, of Lowell; a daughter and son-in-law: Sandra and Michael Sullivan, of Lowell; three grandchildren: Alyson P. Boehm, Patrick M. Sullivan and Declan D. Sullivan, all of Lowell; two sisters-in-law: Gladys Hesson, of Dracut; and Arlene Byrd, of Vienna, VA; also many nieces and nephews.
She was the grandmother of the late Daniel Boehm Sullivan, and sister of the late Arthur Reed, Grace Becht, Catherine Bernard, Francis Reed and Charles Reed.
Friends may call from 4 until 7 PM Tuesday, January 24th, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte.38). Her Funeral Mass to be offered Wednesday, January 25th, at 10 AM at ST. MARGARET’S CHURCH, Lowell. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. Donations in her memory may be made to the St. Margaret’s School; 486 Stevens Street; Lowell, MA 01851.
