Doris Pauline Pike 94 of Anderson, passed away at her home on October 1, 2019.
She was born to Albert and Cicely Jane (Lancaster) Pike who were Quakers on April 1, 1925 in Anderson. Doris was a avid reader of Quaker books and was very active in the Anderson Friends Church and then United Wesleyan Church. She made friends easily from all over Indiana and Ohio at Quaker Haven and other church camps and chaperoned a trip to Chicago to work at a mission with church youth. Doris graduated from Anderson High School in 1943 and studied Christian Education at Cleveland Ohio Bible College.
Through the years Doris worked a variety of jobs which included working as a Nanny, Warner Press, Delco Remy, City Directory and at her brother's record store "Joe's Record Shop". She and her best friend Betty Webster belonged to a Christian Women's group LOA (Love One Another) since high school and she was its last surviving member. She was also active in USFW of Indiana Yearly Meeting of Friends.
Beginning in high school her brother Ralph Pike was involved with genealogy. His interest passed on to Doris who became an expert, regularly visiting relatives all over the country. Doris was very loved by her nieces and nephews and often traveled to California to visit them.
Doris is survived by two sisters; Phyllis Swallow Van Duyn of SC and Rachael Pike (Ronald) Ginder of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers; Joe Pike and Ralph (Dorothy) Pike and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 7 p.m. at United Wesleyan Church, 2233 South Central Way, Anderson. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to7 p.m. at the church.
