Obituary

CHICOPEE – Claire B. (Dupuis) Carriveau, 96, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, October 5, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Springfield on February 8, 1923, a beloved daughter of the late Charles E. Dupuis and Marie E. (Valliere) Dupuis. She was raised in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield. She was a 1941 graduate of the High School of Commerce. Claire worked at Chicopee Manufacturing Company where she met her future husband, Edward Carriveau. She later worked as an alterations specialist at the former Steiger’s Department Stores. Most of all she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Besides her parents she was also predeceased by her loving daughter-in-law, Judith “Judy” (Rhoades) Carriveau who was Called Home on February 23, 2019 and her beloved husband, Edward E. Carriveau who was Called Home on February 13, 2018. They were married on October 1, 1949 at the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 68 years of happiness together. She leaves her three devoted sons, Mark E. Carriveau and his wife, Cecilia, of Chicopee, Paul R. Carriveau of Easthampton and Peter C. Carriveau and his wife, Amber, of Monmouth, ME; her five cherished grandchildren, Michael Carriveau and his wife, Jessica, Andrew Carriveau and his partner, Stacy Gillett, Daniel Carriveau, Isaac Carriveau and Alice Carriveau; her two cherished great-grandsons, James Carriveau and Hudson Carriveau; and her dear brother-in-law, Robert Carriveau of Homosassa, FL. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2019 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 12 Noon), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Patrick Cemetery, 168 Fuller Road, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
