Obituary

SPRINGFIELD ~ Henry J. Malouin, 99, a former resident of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, October 6, 2019. He passed into Eternal Life at Care One at Redstone in East Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Ludlow on November 22, 1919, a beloved son of the late Louis J. and Rosa (Telmos) Malouin. He was raised in Springfield where he lived for most of his life. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army with the Headquarters Battery 185th Field Artillery Battalion and attained the rank of Technician Fifth Grade. He received the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. He was employed as a machine shop instructor for over 20 years at the Massachusetts Career Development Institute in Springfield. Previously, he had worked at the former H.E. Dickerman Manufacturing Company in Springfield, which later became the B.F. Perkins Manufacturing Company. He was a communicant of the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church and currently was a communicant of Mary, Mother of Hope Church, both in Springfield. During his leisure time, he enjoyed oil painting, reading, carpentry, gardening, boating and working in the machine shop. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Lena J. “Lee” (Goodrow) Malouin. They were married on November 28, 1940 at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church and were blessed with over 71 years of happiness together. He leaves his five loving children, Janet Plouffe-McColl and her husband, Hugh, of Springfield, Jerry Malouin and his wife, Doreen, of West Springfield, Sister Theresa Malouin, Sister of Holy Cross, of Hampton, NH, Ray Malouin and his wife, Deborah, of Cookeville, TN, and Bev Waite and her husband, Dennis, of East Longmeadow; his seven cherished grandchildren, James Hallihan, Sean Hallihan and his wife, Tammy, Paul Malouin and his wife, Amanda, Mark Malouin and his wife, Meredith, Michelle Seymour and her husband, Jonathan, Aaron Malouin and his wife, Megan, and Jonathan Malouin and his wife, Jennifer; his 12 cherished great-grandchildren; his two cherished great-great grandchildren; his dear sister-in-law, Norma Tourigny of Southwick; his three dear brothers-in-law, Edward Goodrow and his wife, Ellen, of Agawam, Robert Goodrow of Springfield and Gene Goodrow and his wife, Joane, of Inverness, FL; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Malouin, Goodrow and Waite families. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his cherished granddaughter, Colleen Hallihan who was Called Home on November 25, 1984; his four dear brothers; and his three dear sisters. His funeral will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield, MA 01104. His burial with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at Saint Aloysius Cemetery, 1273 Berkshire Avenue, Springfield, MA 01151.
