Carlton M. Briggs, Jr., 85

Carlton M. Briggs, Jr., age 85, of Mansfield and Pocasset, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Falmouth Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Cobb) Briggs, to whom he was wed for sixty-one years.

Born in Attleboro, MA on January 17, 1934, he was a loving son of the late Carlton M. and Mildred A. (Gillespie) Briggs.

Growing up in Mansfield, Carl was a 1951 graduate of Mansfield High School and continued his education, graduating from UMass Amherst with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Briggs had been employed at Industrial Risk Insurers. Following a successful career which spanned forty-two years, he retired as an account executive.

In his youth, Carl attended the Congregational Church of Mansfield. He was a longtime member of Saint James Masonic Lodge in Mansfield and the Valley of Binghamton AASR. Mr. Briggs had also served as a member of the Mansfield Industrial Committee. In addition to living in Mansfield and Pocasset, Carl and his wife had also resided in Foxboro for twenty-seven years.

Since 1950, Carl summered in Pocasset where he enjoyed fishing, clamming, sitting on his porch and on his boat “Man of the River”. He was also a member of the Tahanto Association, serving as president for several years.

Carl enjoyed building and fixing things around his homes, spending time with his adoring family and will always be remembered as a nice guy.

In addition to his wife, Carl is survived by his dear sisters: Beverly B. DesLauriers (Robert) of North Attleboro and Marian H. Wrightington (Donald) of Attleboro. He was the cherished uncle of Wayne DesLauriers (Brenda), Mark DesLauriers (Narvy), Sharon Mielbye (Matt) and David LaPointe (Diana) and their families. He was the brother-in-law of Donald Cobb (Eleanor) and the late Doris Smith, George Cobb, Jr. and their families.

Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday, October 8th from 2:00-5:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.

A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 5:00 P.M. at the conclusion of visiting hours on Tuesday. Burial will take place privately at Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.
