Obituary

Judith Grant Roure, aged 79 of Groton Long Point, CT passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 29, 2019. She was born of the late Kenneth and Elizabeth Grant on July 23, 1940 in Norwich, Connecticut.

Judith attended the University of Connecticut, where she obtained her Masters Degree in Music Education. Her first teaching position was at Kelly Middle School in Norwich, CT. Then, after marrying Eugene in 1972, she moved to Pomfret, CT where she taught at Pomfret Community School for many years. She finished the last 19 years of her long teaching career at The Rectory School, which she held dear. As a teacher she guided many children on different paths, sharing her love of music, teaching reading and geography, helping children to overcome learning disabilities, and learning English as a second language.

Judith served as the church organist at Christ Episcopal Church in Pomfret, CT for 34 years. After retiring and moving to Groton Long Point she joined St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where she guided the prayer shawl ministry, sang in the choir, and served as the substitute organist.

Judith is survived by her husband of 47 years, Eugene A. Roure, Jr. and her daughter, Cara R. Johnson.

Services for Judith will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Mystic, CT on Monday, October 7, 2019 at 10:00 am with a reception at the Undercroft of the church to follow.

Donations may be made to the Organ Fund at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in lieu of flowers.
