SHREWSBURY-Theresa V. Herbst, 23, of 36 Courtland Street, Worcester died Saturday, June 29th due to injuries sustained by a motor vehicle accident. She leaves her parents, Terrence T. and Sheila F. (Murley) Herbst with whom she lived; 2 sisters, Dr. Ellen D. Herbst of San Francisco, CA and Moira E. Herbst of New York City, NY; a maternal grandmother, Elizabeth F. (MacDonald) Murley of Worcester; a paternal grandmother, Dorothy M. (Hoban) Herbst of Denver, CO; many aunts and uncles; many cousins. Her maternal grandfather, James E. Murley and her paternal grandfather George F. Herbst predeceased her.
She was born in Worcester and lived here all of her life. She graduated from Doherty Memorial High School as Valedictorian of her class. She attended Yale University in New Haven, CT and planned on returning in the spring semester after completing the fall semester at Clark University. Ms. Herbst worked as a professor’s assistant for Worcester State College in the psychology department. She volunteered for the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and was a tutor at St. Peter’s Church teaching English as a second language to adults. She loved swimming and played the piano. She was an avid reader and writer.
The funeral services and calling hour were private. Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery. O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester is directing the arrangements.
