Warren E. Bishop, 75, of North Stonington, died Jan. 19, 2006 at the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London.
He was born Feb. 20, 1930 in New York City, NY, the son of Clifford and Anne (Hughes) Bishop.
He was married to Mary (Kabat) Bishop on Dec. 27, 1954 in Johnson City, NY, and they just celebrated their fiftieth anniversary with their children.
Mr. Bishop had one career and three avocations over the course of his life. The first was as an officer and master navigator in the U.S. Air Force, including tours during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, as well as the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. He also served as an assistant air attaché at the U.S. Embassy in London during 1970-74. After retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel in 1978, Mr. Bishop started a business selling and repairing antique Connecticut clocks. He always had a deep affection for animals—he obtained his degree at Cornell University in 1951 in animal husbandry—and after retirement raised a wide range of livestock, especially sheep and chickens. His beloved German Shepard, Hammer, was a constant companion. Finally, Mr. Bishop was a devoted boater—he often called it his “second love—and during the summers of the 1990s was often sailing on his 32-foot “Concerto.”
Active in the community, he was President of the Lions Club, serving them faithfully for over twenty years. He devoted time to the Economic Development Commission, the Nursing Board, the Republican Town Committee, and the North Stonington Grange, as well as being a driver for fifteen years for the local Ambulance Association.
Mr. Bishop was a communicant of St. Thomas More Church in North Stonington.
He is survived by his wife and their four children, Jim Bishop of Rocky Hill, Ct, Kathy Campbell of Alexandria, Va, Patty Bishop of Evergreen, Co, and Terry Bishop of Oak Hill, Va; eight grandchildren, Kevin, Tim, Ginny, Ben, Chris, Miles, Annie and Emily; his sisters Virginia Killoran and Dorothy Capeci, his brothers Robert, Clifford, and George; and many nieces and nephews.
