Eileen F. McCaffrey, 77

Dateline: Norton, MA

Eileen F. (Dyer) McCaffrey, age 77, of Norton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family and friends on Friday, September 20, 2019 at Wingate at Norton.

Born in Attleboro, MA on February 2, 1942, she was a loving daughter of the late Harvard and Frances (Jewett) Dyer.

Eileen grew up in Norton and was a graduate of Norton High School. She continued her education earning a bachelor’s degree in Education and a master’s degree in Counseling both from Bridgewater State College.

Prior to retiring, she worked as a counselor at the South Bay Mental Health Services in Plymouth. She previously was employed as a school teacher in Norton and Marshfield; and also as an assistant director at Camp Wind-in-the-Pines in Plymouth.

In addition to living in Norton, Eileen was a former resident of Marshfield, where she was a communicant and volunteer in Saint Ann By The Sea Church; and in Plymouth, where she was a parishioner, choir member and volunteer in Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Parish.

Eileen was a lifetime member of the Plymouth Bay Girl Scout Council and for many years was an active member of the Pilgrim Festival Chorus in Plymouth.

She especially enjoyed times spent in the presence of her adoring family. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing, music of all kinds and cooking, especially for family and friends. Through her church and other affiliations, Eileen shared her love of cooking with many people throughout her life. Her other interests were reading, especially mystery’s and playing Mah-Jongg and Scrabble.

She is survived by her devoted children: Michael P. McCaffrey and his wife Lisa of Eastham and Dr. Kathryn E. McCaffrey, vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Wheaton College in Norton. She was the cherished grandmother of Joshua McCaffrey, Nicole Bulman and Zachary McCaffrey. She was the dear sister of Lawrence Dyer and his wife Dee of Houston, Texas and Nancie Sommers and her husband Chuck of Derry, New Hampshire, and is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews.


Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday, September 27th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 28th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will be private.
