Manuel P. Arruda, age 85, of Taunton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the embracing love of his family and friends, on Thursday, September 19, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Maria E. “Estrela” (Soares) Arruda, to whom he was wed for nearly fifty-nine years.
Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal on August 8, 1934, he was a loving son of the late Manuel and Maria D. (Gaspar) Arruda.
Manny grew up in Portugal where he worked many jobs including farming, as a wine make and as a longshoreman.
In 1976, along with his family, Mr. Arruda moved to the United States and settled in Taunton where he made his home ever since. He worked hard to support his family and his jobs included being a janitor at the Silver City Galleria Mall in Taunton, as a landscaper and as a machine operator.
Manny loved spending time with adoring family and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Taunton. His hobbies included fishing, carpentry, metal fabricating and he also enjoyed listening to his favorite soccer teams on the radio.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Eduarda M. “Edie” Amin of Taunton and Joseph M. Arruda and his wife Ana of Taunton. He was the cherished grandfather of Linda Amin of Taunton, Joshua Arruda of Taunton and Jonathan Arruda of Taunton. He was the dear brother of the late Belmira Soares and Joseph Arruda and is also survived by many-many loving nieces and nephews.
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday, September 24th at 12:00 P.M. at the Taunton Memorial Funeral Home, 8 Crapo St. (Off Route 140, Tremont St.) Taunton. Burial will follow at the Mayflower Hill Cemetery in Taunton.
Visitation will be held prior to the services on Tuesday morning beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the Taunton Memorial Funeral Home.
