Herman Otis Purvis, 85, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, September 20, 2019, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, with the Rev. George C. Paulk officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverbend Cemetery, in Irwin County, Georgia. The family will receive friends Friday morning, from 10 AM until 11 AM, at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Purvis was born August 8, 1934, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Otis Purvis and Inez Harper Purvis Whitley. He lived in the community all of his life and was a farmer who enjoyed raising black angus cows and breeding coon hounds. Mr. Purvis loved his dogs and enjoyed coon and rabbit hunting. He also sang with the Humble Hearts. Mr. Purvis was a member of Riverbend Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mae Ruth Purvis of Ocilla; sons: Herman Purvis, Jr. of Ocilla and Brad & Deanne Purvis of Ocilla; grandchildren: Liz Cary & Richard of Wilmington, Delaware, Travis Purvis & Beth of Lax, Chance Purvis of Ocilla and Eli Purvis of Ocilla and a daughter-in-law, Bonnie & Joe Nobles of Ocilla. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Derwin Purvis.
