Obituary

Larry J. Hornbuckle, Sr., 75, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 20, 2019, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mr. Hornbuckle will be laid to rest at Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 19, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Bryan Fountain, Kreg Schmidt, Holt Hornbuckle, Michael Donahoo, Matt Colson, Michael Hudgins, Justin Browning and Steve Browning will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lynn Kelley Sunday School Class of Tifton’s First Baptist Church, employees of Georgia Power Company, members of the Holanna Creek Hunting Club, Sandra and Wayne Matthews, Rodney and Rosemary Alexander, Larry and Ty Hobbs, Doug and Carrol Bowen, Larry and Brenda Lang, Patsy Hathorn, Charles and Donna Smith, Marion Sirmans and Danny Shepherd.

Born January 31, 1944 in Tifton, Mr. Hornbuckle was the son of the late James H. Hornbuckle and Evelyn Hornbuckle Hancock. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Esnard; and two grandchildren, William Augustus Miller and Allison Fate Miller. Before retiring he was employed as a supervisor with Georgia Power Company for 37 years and was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved University of Georgia football and Tift County Blue Devil football.

Mr. Hornbuckle is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, whom he adored, Carla Ross Hornbuckle of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry J. “Jamie” Hornbuckle, Jr. and wife Angela of Hiram; one daughter, Kelli Hornbuckle Miller of Tifton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Rad Fountain of Bonaire and Diane and Johnny Schmidt of Valdosta; four grandchildren, Lacey Miller Donahoo and husband Michael, Holton Chase Hornbuckle, Maili Claire Hornbuckle and Callie Hope Hornbuckle; and many nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Tift Area, 618 Central Avenue North, Tifton, GA 31794; or Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Irvin Branch, Jr., 153 Academy Drive, Chula, GA 31733.
