Mary F. (Ferreira) Tavares, 96, of New Bedford passed away Sunday September 15, 2019 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. She was the wife of the late Manuel Tavares.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Fermino and Margarida (Santos) Ferreira, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Tavares was a member of the Cape Verdean Women's Social Club and the Happy Couple Club. She also enjoyed dancing.
Survivors include four children, Marcello Fonseca of Newton, Roland Fonseca of Florida, Juanita Barros of Marion, and Cynthia Billouin of Connecticut; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a niece.
She was the mother of the late Antonio Fonseca, Jr. and Dolores Monroe, grandmother of the late Paul Fonseca and Antonio Fonseca, and sister of the late Joseph Ferreira and Lena Nunes.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday September 20, 2019 at 10 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Visitation will be at the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford on Friday morning from 8-9:30 AM prior to the Church service.
