Obituary

Richard P. Craven, 87, died at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Monday, January 2 after a period of failing health. He was the loving husband of Eleanor R. (Blute) Craven. Born in Jamaica Plain, Mr. Craven was a graduate of Commerce High School in Boston and attended Curry College. He was an U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Mr. Craven was a Boston Police Officer for 25 years before becoming Supervisor of Attendance for the Boston School Dept. for 10 years. He retired at age 65. He was a member of DAV and the Boston Patrolmen’s Assn. Mr. Craven received a medal for bravery from the City of Boston when he saved 2 boys from drowning after they had fallen through ice. In his free time he enjoyed ballroom dancing, golfing, swimming and running.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Craven was the loving father and friend of his daughters, Patricia R. Craven of Stoughton and Elaine M. Kaplan of Hanover, as well as the loving Papa of his grandchildren, Elaine Selleck, Michelle Berard, Kristen Porter, Scott Handrahan and Lauren Handrahan. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Melissa Barr, Christopher Barr and Kylie Handrahan and his brother, John J. Craven of Norwood.

Funeral Services were private. Donations in Richard’s name may be made to the American Parkinson’s Disease Assn., 715 Albany St., Suite C329, Boston, 02118.
