Joseph A. Mercer, Jr. of Everett died on Tuesday, September 10. Raised and educated in Somerville, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Joanne M. (Russell) Mercer. Joseph worked for many years at the Boston Globe. He loved baseball, hockey and football, and was a great Little League pitcher and hockey player.
Joseph is survived by his two sons, Matthew and Michael Mercer, and their mother Kimberly. He was the dear brother of Helen Mercer of Arlington, and Darlene Ehrgott and her husband David of Winchester, and James Mercer. Joseph was the uncle of Jason M. Mercer, Joseph A. Piazzo, Shauna and Ashley Ehrgott, and the great uncle of Lyla Jae Mercer. He is also survived by many loving cousins.
