Obituary




John Warren Broome, Jr., 74, of Dudley died Wednesday, August 28th in Brigham and Women’s Hospital after a car accident. He leaves his longtime companion of 20 years, Christie Nigro with whom he lived; two stepsons, Philip Nigro, III and his wife, Diana of Kailua, HI and Matthew Nigro and his wife, Nikki of Walmanolo, HI; two step daughters, Carrie Pye of Dudley and Olivia Rappe and her husband, Michael of Kailua, HI; his aunt, Phoebe Kuhns and her husband, Harry of Lancaster, PA; five grandchildren, Owen, Liam, and Evelyn Rappe; Layla and Philip Nigro, IV; and several cousins.
He was born in Lancaster, PA the son of Elizabeth and John W. Broome, Sr. and graduated from Berklee College of Music. John worked as a dog trainer for 30 years, training over 18,000 dogs during his career. Mr. Broome also worked at Phillips Life Line in Framingham as a first responder. John was a talented Boston Jazz Musician who belonged to the “Brightside Band” and played with the Buddy Rich Band and the Phil Wilson Band to name a few. Jazz and Dogs were his true passions.
John was an adjunct professor for 10 years at Worcester State University and sang with their Chorale for many years. He was a History buff who was curious about everything. John was an upbeat, optimistic, kind, gentleman who loved life. His favorite pastime was spending time in Maine, especially Bar Harbor.
His memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 15th with a service at 2:00 PM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. A visitation will be held from 1:30 PM until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 260 Cochituate Rd. #200, Framingham, MA 01701.
