John Samuel “Sammy” Mason, 79, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Gary Cadwell and the Rev. Steve Davis officiating. Mr. Mason will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 7, 2019, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
The Deacons of Brookfield Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons and the members of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class of Brookfield Baptist Church.
Born January 2, 1940 in Tifton, Mr. Mason was the son of the late Alton Washington Mason and Mary Malissa Clayton Mason. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Joe Mason. Before retiring, he worked in the Horticulture Department for the University of Georgia. He was an active member of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and was a member of the Advisory Boards for Coastal Plains CASA. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Brookfield Baptist Church, where he was an active deacon and taught the Discipleship Training Class.
Mr. Mason is survived by his wife, Linda Harrell Mason of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Chris Goodrich of St. John, Florida; one sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Tony McMillan of Tifton; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Richard Jenkins of Winder; two grandchildren, Matthew Goodrich and Daniel Goodrich; and several nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to the Memorial Fund of Brookfield Baptist Church, 2454 U. S. Highway 82 East, Brookfield, GA 31727.
