Obituary

Josefina (Barredo) de Armas, age 79, of Woburn, passed away on August 31, 2019. She was the loving wife of Floro de Armas.

Born in Pinal del Rio, Cuba, she was the daughter of the late Ezequiel and Josefa (Valdez) Barredo. In the 1960’s, Josefina fled Fidel Castro’s leadership in Cuba and left for Spain, where she lived in Madrid for two years. It was there that she met her future husband, Floro de Armas, who had also left Cuba. They immigrated to the United States and settled in Union City, New Jersey, which had a Cuban population.

In New Jersey, Josefina worked in a factory making clothing, and eventually branched out to develop her own clothing manufacturing company, which was operated until the downturn in the economy. She then retired and sold retail jewelry at her cousin’s shop.

In addition to her husband, Floro, Mrs. de Armas is survived by a daughter, Judith de Armas Kuntz and her husband, Kevin, of Woburn. She also leaves behind two grandsons, Christian and Nicholas Kuntz of Woburn, and a sister, Teresita Barredo of Miami, FL.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Friday, September 6th from 6-8PM, and again on Saturday, September 7th at 9AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester, at 10AM.
