Edward D. Callahan Sr.

TEWKSBURY - Edward D. Callahan Sr., age 73, died Tuesday evening at his home following a
courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Anne M. (Harty) Callahan, with whom he
had celebrated a 49th wedding anniversary this past October 6th.
He was born in Lowell, on December 12, 1932, a son of Rose (Connolly) Callahan of Billerica,
and the late Bernard Callahan. He was raised in Winchester and graduated Winchester High
School. He had lived in Tewksbury since 1962.
He worked as a manager for New England Telephone, and later NYNEX before retirement. He
was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Club of America. Since retirement, he had worked at
the Town of Tewksbury’s Assessors Office.
During the Korean War, he served in the US Army, stationed in Europe.
He was an active member of St. William’s Church, as a former member of the St. William’s Men’s
Club, as a Eucharistic Minister, and along with his wife, a wedding rehearsal guide. He was also a
member of the Fr. Coppen’s Council, 4336, Knights of Columbus in Tewksbury, and a member of the Billerica Irish American Club.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by seven children, Nancy Callahan-Stronach and her
husband James of Lowell, Kathleen Callahan Bennett and her husband Brian of CA, Edward D.
Callahan Jr. and his wife Cathleen (Aspinall) of Tewksbury, Michael Callahan and his wife Mery
(Ocampo) of Tewksbury, Joanne Foley and her husband Brian of Tewksbury, AnneMarie
Jussaume and her husband Philippe of Dunstable, Colin N. Callahan and his wife Christa (Biltoft)
of Exeter, NH; nineteen grandchildren, Tara, Kerry, and Nancy Stronach, Shelagh, Breanna, and
Colleen Bennett, Keegan, Haley, Caitlin, Ashley, Connor Callahan, Kerin, Colin, Sean, and Rory
Foley, Kara, Erin, and Nicholas Jussaume, Anna Callahan; five brothers and sisters, Barbara
Callanan of Woburn, Bernard Callahan and his wife Mary of MD, James Callahan and his wife
Ann Marie Grady of Nahant, Rosemary Eachus and her husband Fred of CA, Susan Holland and
her husband Timothy of Tyngsboro.
He was also grandfather of the late Bridget Jussaume.
His Funeral Mass
was held Friday in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Interment with Army honors was in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the American Lung Assn., P.O. Box 265, Burlington, MA 01803-0465 will be appreciated.
