Obituary


Harold Ronald Hodgins, 78, of 29 Beverly Circle, Greenville, RI, died Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Cheryl (Hirst) Hodgins, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage.

He was born in Toronto, Canada, and he was the son of the late Kip and Marion (Douglass) Hodgins. He was a teacher in Canada, very creative and imaginative. His greatest strengths were in the area of communications where he was in charge of the audio-visual aspects of educational instruction. He made films to instruct teachers for the Ministry of Education in Ontario, Canada. He came to the United States in 1962 and headed Research and Design at Instructo McGraw Hill and became the Editorial Director. His expertise in photography, television, and film strips was used to develop educational materials. He later became Vice-President and Director of Training for the Institute of Human Resources. He was a professional videographer and photographer until his health deteriorated.


Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Thomas W. Hodgins and Jessica J. Hodgins, both of Greenville, his cousin, William Hodgins of Boston, his sister Cathi of Wilmington, DE, and his grand-dog, TeTe.

He was a member of the Canadian Red Cross Society, the Boy Scouts Association of Canada, the Royal Life Saving Society, as well as a private pilot.

He was a parishioner at St. Thomas Episcopal Church and a member the Order of St. Luke’s. He was committed to his faith and to helping others.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at 11am at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 1 Smith Street, Greenville, RI, where family and friends will be received from 9:30 – 10:45 am. It will be followed by a luncheon at the Parish Hall.
