Obituary

“US Chief Warrant Officer William V. "Bill" Roche, (U.S. Army Retired) a resident of Rockland and formerly of Townsend, Boston Nantaskett and Winthrop, entered into eternal life on Sunday August 18, 2019 at his home in Rockland. He was 81 years of age.

Bill was born in Boston on May 20, 1938, a son of the late Vincent J. Roche and Alice G. (Scott) Roche. He grew up in different sections of Boston, as well as Nantasket and Winthrop. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Boston in 1955. Bill enlisted into the United States Air Force on June 13, 1955 and later joined the United States Army and served his country with pride and honor as a helicopter pilot for 22 years including 2 tours during the Vietnam Conflict. During his employment he also taught fellow servicemen how to fly helicopters. He was honorably discharged from active duty on June 2, 1977 and then joined the U.S. Army Reserves. He was honorably discharged and retired from the Army Reserves on January 29, 1991 with the Rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He was a member of the Rockland V.F.W. Post , the Rockland Knights of Columbus Council and former member and Past Commander of The Townsend V.F.W. Post.

Bill is the beloved husband of 56 years to Theresa C. (Curran) Roche. He is the devoted father of James M. "Jim" Roche and his wife Patricia. He is the loving Grumpy to Dominic, Elizabeth, Aidan, Gabrielle, and Nicholas. He is the beloved brother of Paul Roche, Kathy Dion, Maryellen Roche, Thomas Roche, Leo Roche, V.J. Roche, Teresa Briggs, and the late Robert Roche and John Roche. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bill's Funeral on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. His visiting hours will be on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
