Obituary

Robert F. “Robby” Walsh, IV, age 19, a lifelong resident of Winchester, died suddenly on August 18, 2019. He was the beloved son of Margaret A. (Russo) Walsh and the late Robert F. “Bob” Walsh.

Born and raised in Winchester, Robby attended Winchester public schools and participated in many of the Winchester sports programs, often coached by his father, including Pop-Warner football and Winchester Cal Ripken baseball. At Winchester High School, he played varsity special teams in football his freshman year and also wrestled varsity his freshman year. His absolute true passion, though, was football. Robby could also be found playing a pickup game in the neighborhood or on the playgrounds.

Robby was known for his great sense of humor and ready smile. His life took an unfortunate turn when he developed a drug addiction at a young age, which was a daily challenge for the All-American boy, son, friend and athlete that we all knew and loved. With the love and support of his family, friends and counselors, he had recently celebrated sobriety, completed his education, and was living and working independently. He was looking forward to beginning life anew, and doing his best to stay on the path that would keep him clean. As is so often the case with addiction, his struggle overcame him and he succumbed. He will be lovingly remembered and missed every day.

In addition to his devoted mother, Margaret, Robby is survived by his sister, Tracy McCormick, and many loving relatives and friends. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Friday, Aug. 23 from 6-8PM, and again on Saturday at 9AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester at 10AM. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. Flowers are welcomed. If desired, donations in Robby’s memory may be made to Zack’s Team Foundation and mailed to 50 Tower Farm Rd., Billerica, MA 01821-2818. www.zacksteam.org.
