Obituary

Donald (Don) Morrell, of Maplewood, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2019 at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his wife Gaynel and his son Danny. He was survived by his children Dawn (Paul) Tuveson, Dorie (Richard) Thul, David (Cathy) Morrell, Diane Briseno, Donald (Carrie) Morrell, his daughter-in-law Debbie Morrell, and his brother Dean (Ginny) Morrell. He was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he loved very much.

Don was best known for his infectious laugh, his stories, his love for polkas, singing, and his love for his family. He really enjoyed getting together with them for holidays and other special occasions, but more than anything, he loved playing cards whenever he had the chance. Active well into his eighties, he enjoyed playing golf, bocci ball and bowling. He was secretary for all three of the bowling leagues he was on for many years. During his younger years, Don’s love of football brought him onto the sidelines working the chains for his sons football years. He was involved in youth sports, coaching baseball for 17 years in the North End area. He was a big fan of all Minnesota sports, but especially loved the Twins and the Vikings. He was born and raised in Wisconsin, so at times, would cheer on the Packers. Don enjoyed taking his family camping and he passed this love on to each of his children who continued camping well into each of their adult years. The Morrell’s front door was always open to friends and family. With six children and their friends, there was never a dull moment.

Don will be remembered fondly as a good man who cared deeply for his family. Please join his family and celebrate his life at a visitation on Wednesday, August 21, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, with Prayer Service 8:00 pm, at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1725 Kennard Street in Maplewood. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial August 22, at 11:00 am, with visitation 1 hour prior to Mass at the same location. Don’s remains will be interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Friday, August 23.

Don's family would like to invite everyone to wear Vikings or Twins shirts to the visitation and Mass in honor of their dad.
