Obituary

Claudette Lillian Blake, 83, of New Bedford passed away on Saturday August 10, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends at home.

Claudette was born in New Bedford in 1935 to the late Floyd Carr and Loretta (Thauvette) Carr. She was married to Donald H. Blake and they had four children, Loretta (Lee), Alyse, Donald, and Michelle. Claudette was a Justice of the Peace for many years and worked as an administrator at the First Unitarian Church as well as at SouthCoast Legal Services.

A well-known community activist, Claudette was a member of the New Bedford Branch of the NAACP, New Bedford Historical Society, and the Martha Briggs Educational Club. She supported many causes and was most proud of her work supporting area hospitals with knitted hats and coverups for premature babies. Claudette will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her children, daughters Lee, Alyse, Michelle and son Donald Blake; three grandchildren; Aaron, Michael, and Lee-Alyse Perry; sisters Floretta Lopez and Aleta Mello; sister and brother-in-law Rosalyn and Peter Hand of New York; brother-in-law Nayland Blake of Myrtle Beach, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Her visitation and service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, August 17th from 12 – 3 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, Bedford.
