SOMERSET – Almerinda (Martins) Ferreira, 83 of Somerset and formerly of Berkley, went home to be with the lord on Friday, August 2, 2019 peacefully at Clifton Rehabilitative and Nursing Center. Born in Covoada, Sao Miguel, Acores, Almerinda was the daughter of the late Manuel Medeiros Martins and the late Escolastica de Conceicao (Medeiros) Martins. She was also the beloved wife of the late Adelino Ferreira.
Prior to retiring in 1998, Almerinda worked as a machine operator & winder at Dyercraftsman in Taunton for 20 years. She was a parishioner of St. John of God Church, member of its Holy Rosary Society, and the church choir.
Survivors include her son: David Ferreira (wife Irene) of Somerset and her daughter: Maria de Mello (husband John) of Berkley; 2 sisters: Josephina Medeiros & Maria Jose Pereira both of Canada; grandchildren: Dianne Gofton of Canada, Ashley Ivey of Seekonk, Joshua De Mello of Berkley; great grandchildren: Steven Pereira, Andrew Pereira, and Madison Gofton; several nieces & nephews. She was the grandmother of the late David S. Ferreira and the sister of the late Manuel Medeiros.
Almerinda’s family would like to thank the nurses and support staff at Clifton Rehabilitative & Nursing Center, for there compassion, care and the comfort that they gave to Almerinda and her family. Her family has also asked for visitors to where a piece of clothing with the color Purple in it, to honor Almerinda's favorite color.
Her funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on Monday, Aug. 5th here at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John of God Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours on Sunday, Aug. 4th from 4-7 P.M.
