Obituary

“Teamsters”Thomas A. "Dicka" DeRosa, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday, July 29, 2019 at The Chelsea Soldiers Home in Chelsea. He was 92 years of age.

Dicka was born in Somerville on April 1, 1927, a son of the late Joseph DeRosa and Mary L. (Jesson) DeRosa. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated throughout the Boston Public School system. Dicka enlisted into the United States Navy on April 20, 1944 and served his country with honor and courage during World War II. He was honorably discharged on June 5, 1946 with the rank of Seaman First Class. Dicka worked in the warehouse for First National Stores and was a proud member of Teamsters Union Local # 379 for over 40 years. He enjoyed walking around his beloved Charlestown and also appreciated the special moments in life that he was able to share with each one of his family members.

Dicka is the beloved husband of 64 years to the late Hannah M. (Doherty) DeRosa. He is the devoted father of Frances Carroll and her husband Stephen, Anne Marie Murphy and her husband Michael, Thomas A. DeRosa Jr. and his wife Kathy and Joseph DeRosa and his wife Karen. He is the loving Grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of the late George DeRosa and his wife Maureen. He is the beloved brother-in-law of Shirley (Doherty) Hanley. He is the dear friend of Anna Noska and her late husband John and the late Jack and Bernie O'Callahan. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dicka's Funeral on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. His visiting hours will be on Friday, August 2, 2019 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
