Obituary

Paxton – Joan F. (Oster) Benoit, 83, of Paxton died peacefully in her home on Saturday, July 27th.
Mrs. Benoit is survived by her husband of 60 years, John A. “Jack” Benoit; her son, Paxton Fire Department Deputy Chief Michael J. Benoit and his wife, Michelle of Paxton; her two grandsons, Andrew D. Benoit and Jonathan M. Benoit of Paxton; a sister, Phyllis Sauriol of Millbury; a brother Kenneth Oster of North Carolina and many nephews and nieces.
Joan was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Edward and Jeannette (Bousquet) Oster and is also predeceased by two sisters, Janet Fahl and Sandra Rembiszewski and a brother, Robert Oster.
Mrs. Benoit graduated from Saint Peter’s High School in Worcester and worked as a clerk at the College of the Holy Cross, Melville Shoe and the former Ware and Pratt. Joan then continued her career at Anna Maria College working for the Dean of Admissions and then worked for Dr. Richard Dowd, D.M.D. and retired from the office of Dr. Mary Hawthorne, M.D.
Upon retiring Joan devoted much of her time to her two grandchildren, Andrew and Jon. She never hesitated in doing anything that would help her family, especially her grandchildren. Joan was a longtime member of Saint Columba Church where she taught CCD for many years and was a member of the Women’s Guild. In the recent years she had helped her husband with the Hope for Housing Program with Saint Columba Church to benefit the Central Mass Housing Alliance. Joan also volunteered for many years as the Co-Chair of the Paxton Firefighter’s Association Firefighter’s Ball.
She was a devout Boston Red Sox fan, enjoyed reading and taking day trips to the casino. However, she was the happiest when she was spending time with her family and taking trips with them to Maine.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 31st from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond Street Worcester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Columba Church 10 Richards Avenue Paxton. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery, Paxton. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 30th from 5 to 7 PM in the funeral home. Memorial contributions in memory of Joan may be made to the Paxton Fire Department 576 Pleasant St. Paxton, MA 01612 or to the Hope for Housing c/o Central Mass Housing Alliance 6 Institute Road Worcester, MA 01609.
