Doris Rutland Carpenter, 90, of Tifton passed away Sunday, July 28, 2019. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Vanceville Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. Phil Carpenter officiating. Mrs. Carpenter will be laid to rest at Lawrence Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 30, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. Carpenter will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Carpenter’s grandsons, Chris Lloyd, Jonathan Lloyd, Greg Wilson, Adam Carpenter, Ben Carpenter and Chris Pelham, will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Carpenter was born to the late W. H. Sr. and Kathleen Slade Rutland on July 19, 1929 in Berrien County. Doris was married to Ray Carpenter on August 3, 1947, who also preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, W. H. Rutland, Jr. and Ernest Rutland. She was a homemaker and a member of Enigma Congregational Christian Church.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her five children, Kathy Lloyd (Larry) of Winona Lake, Indiana, Carol Wilson (John) of Cornelia, Sam Carpenter (Connie) of Tifton, Phil Carpenter (Susan) of Lake Charles, Louisiana and James Carpenter of Columbia, South Carolina. She had nine grandchildren, Chris Lloyd, Jonathan Lloyd, Greg Wilson, Angela Atkins, Adam Carpenter, Ben Carpenter, Amanda Carpenter, Rebecca Pelham and Elizabeth Ochoa-Rosas; and 20 great-grandchildren and one due shortly. Mrs. Carpenter is also survived by two sisters, Olline Young of Tifton and Carolyn Graves of Gainesville, Florida; and one brother, Scheryl Rutland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made in her memory to Camp Eunice, 554 Camp Eunice Road, Roberta, GA 31078.
