Hermano S. Melo, age 59, of Taunton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 22, 2019 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, as the result of injuries sustained from a pedestrian accident in Taunton.
Born in St. Miguel, Portugal on November 2, 1960, he was a loving son of the late Aristides and Maria (Sousa) Melo.
Hermano grew up in Portugal. In 1976, he moved to the United States and settled in Taunton where he had made his home for the past forty-three years. He was educated in both Portugal and Taunton.
Hermano had previously been employed as a baker at the Commissary in Braintree. He was a communicant of Saint Anthony’s Church in Taunton and loved spending time with his loving family, especially with his nieces and nephews. His hobbies included working on cars.
He is survived by his devoted daughter Kathryn Melo. He was the dear brother of Liberal Melo of St. Miguel, Portugal, Fatima Santos and her late husband Antonio of Taunton, Luisa Melo of Taunton, Maria Adriana Clark and her husband Thomas of East Taunton, Emanuel Melo and his wife Michelle of Somerset, Herbert Melo of Plymouth and Gloria Pais and her husband Paul of Florida. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his former wife Laura.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will begin on Friday, July 26th at 10:00 A.M. from the Taunton Memorial Funeral Home, 8 Crapo St. (Off Route 140, Tremont St.) Taunton, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Anthony’s Church, 126 School St., Taunton. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 25th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Taunton Memorial Funeral Home.
