Obituary

Allison I. Haskell, Jr., 83, of New Bedford passed away on Monday July 1, 2019 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He was the husband of Marilyn L. (Boucher) Haskell, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage, and the father of Elizabeth L. Haskell.

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Allison I. Haskell and Alice (Brightman) DeNomme. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School, Class of 1954, where he was All State in track and field and All Bristol County in football. Upon his graduation from high school, he received a scholarship to Brown University. He later graduated from Dean College, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and the University of Massachusetts where he fulfilled his education. In 1997 he was inducted into the New Bedford High School Gridiron Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in football.

He served in the U.S. Air Force where he was a drill instructor and disaster control instructor. He achieved Airman of the Year after competing against several hundred other young airmen to obtain that honor.

After his service to his country, Al returned to New Bedford where he ventured into banking and finance. He was a bank officer for the Merchants National Bank and several other banking institutions. For most of his career, he was a managing supervisor at Associate Financial Services, in residential and commercial lending.

His passion for football, baseball, and other sports kept him busy when not in his yard manicuring his lawn and admiring his beech tree. The New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and Boston Celtics brought him much enjoyment. During his career in banking, he was a member of the Lions Club and the Kiwanis Club where he donated his time to these worthy causes. He kept busy in his retirement enjoying time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by his brother Henry DeNomme and wife Denise of Maine; his sister-in-law, Joan Wright and husband David of Cummings, GA; and nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday July 17, 2019 at 10 AM at St. Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday July 16, 2019 from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
