Obituary

William J. "Pappy" Ballantine, 79, of Tifton died Thursday, January 12, 2006 at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Tony Roberts will officiate with entombment to follow at Tift Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Dannie Mauldin, Ken Cranford, Brent Cranford, Jack Douglas, Justin Douglas and Harmon Coarsey will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Mr. Ballantine's Sunday School Class at Pine Ridge Baptist Church in Berrien County. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, January 13, 2006 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mr. Ballantine was born on November 1, 1926 in Newark, New Jersey. He was the son of William and Edythe Williams Ballantine, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Pappy was a veteran in the U.S. Army during World War II as a military policeman. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golf and doing crossword puzzles.

Pappy is survived by his wife, Lorraine Walker Ballantine of Tifton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Jack Douglas of Tifton and Pamela and Ken Cranford of Jacksonville, FL; three grandsons, Mark Cranford and Brent Cranford, both of Jacksonville, FL and Justin Douglas of Tifton; and one great grandchild, Erin Jewel Cranford of Jacksonville, FL.
