WEBSTER – Joan F. “Joanne” (Fitzgerald) Walsh, 86, passed away peacefully Friday, July 5, 2019 in Harrington Healthcare at Hubbard with family at her side.
She leaves 4 children, Debra A. “Debbie” Mikolajczak and her husband Francis of Dudley, Lynne F. “Bippy” Thorburn of Webster, Robert P. Thorburn, also of Webster, and William T. Thorburn of Holbrook; 7 grandchildren, Joshua, Sherri, Samantha, Matthew, Cassandra, Adam and Kyle; 3 great-grandchildren, Laura, Matthew and Seth; 3 brothers, Charles Fitzgerald of Thompson, CT, Victor Fitzgerald of Florida and Brian Fitzgerald of North Carolina; 2 sisters, Julia Nicholson of Webster and Hazel Holding of Quincy; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Marie Costello in 2004, by her two brothers John and Michael Fitzgerald, and by her two sisters Rosemarie Phelan and Doris Armstrong.
She was born and raised in Cambridge, one of the ten children of John and Hazel (Ogden) Fitzgerald. In the 1970’s, she was a seasonal camper at Indian Ranch for many years, which enticed her to move to Webster in the early 1980’s.
Joanne was a loving homemaker most of her life. As a young woman, she worked at the Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge and had the distinction of being the Polaroid ten-pin bowling champion She was a proud fan of the Boston Red Sox and of the New England Patriots. She enjoyed playing bingo. Her favorite activity was spending quality time with her family and friends.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, July 10, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, July 13, in the community room of Golden Heights, Slater Street, Webster at a time to be announced.
